All Medical Professionals Need Insurance
Doctors and other medical professionals are expected to have insurance to cover them and also to protect patients from receiving poor care. However, it can sometimes be frustrating for experienced professionals to absorb additional insurance costs, operating under the mindset that, “It could never happen to me.” But the occurrence of lawsuits and cases of negligence occur frequently, and doctors should be sure to understand the necessity of insurance to their practices.
Professional Liability Insurance is necessary to protect a doctor in case that harm is done without necessarily causing bodily harm. A case can be built against a doctor for a number of reasons, some as simple as neglecting to conduct a test that may have identified a disease or illness in a patient. This may also be important if a patient feels that the expected results of a treatment were exaggerated prior to implementation, resulting in false hope. A number of other reasons such as negligence or unfair dealings can also prove to be a just cause. With so many possible errors, this insurance is extremely important.
Medical Malpractice Insurance is intended to protect medical professionals in case of a mistake or negligence resulting in the necessity to cover damages for a patient. If a patient goes into a medical facility for a routine procedure such as a physical, and the doctor fails to complete each step thoroughly and misses a defect of some sort, that doctor could later be sued for negligence. If that defect proves to be life threatening or debilitating, the doctor could then be responsible for a lifetime of damage payments to that patient, and malpractice insurance is in place to cover that cost.
Workers Compensation Insurance is necessary in case an employee of a medical facility is injured while on the job. In any facility, there are a number of safe guards in place to make sure that each employee is working safely and following procedures that attempt to keep employees away from harm. However, unforeseen accidents may occur, and those employees may require financial assistance to help cover the costs of their injury. By obtaining insurance, those costs can be covered and employees and professionals alike can both feel more comfortable performing duties at their jobs.
